A little bit of history
Before colonization, Grenada was inhabited by Caribes. In 1498 the island was named Concepcion by Christopher Columbus and later renamed Grenada by the Spaniards conquerors.
Naturally, European settlement did not go without its conflicts. At the beginning of the 17th century, the British started to settle here only to fail and in 1674 the French were finally able to take control of the territory.
A century later, in 1763, the British took over the island through the Treaty of Paris, and lots of industries were introduced to Grenada. This includes the production of cotton, nutmeg, and cacao. With this, the population of slaves also grew having reached 24,000 souls before they were freed. In later years, workers from India and the Far East replaced them, giving birth to an amazing mixture of ethnicities and cultures.
This is why nowadays we find in Grenada an interesting blend of African, European, and Indian descendants.
In 1974, the island finally became independent establishing a constitutional monarchy governed by the queen of England whose representative was the Governor General.
What you will find in Grenada in terms of wealth, safety, and economy
