The Most Underrated European Residency by Investment, Montenegro
Europe is well-known for its many residencies by investment programs. These usually come with favorable tax conditions and excellent quality of life, while investments to be made are generally profitable. Thus, they tend to attract a large number of high net worth individuals from developing nations. EU permanent residence by investment is a key service we provide in Mundo.
Yet, European residency by investment programs are costly. Spain costs €500,000, Cyprus costs €300,000, Greece costs €250,000, Hungary costs €180,000, and Portugal costs between €280,000 and €500,000.
What if we told you that you could buy and European passport for less than many of these programs? We are talking about Montenegro.
Why Montenegro?
Yet, you may say: Yes, but Montenegro is not an EU country. That’s correct. However, Montenegro is set to become a member of the European Union in 2025. Plus, living in Montenegro is way more affordable than in many other European destinations.
Also, consider something simple: A passport is way better than a residency. A passport is life insurance. With a residency, after all, you are just a foreigner. Africans, Middle Easterners, and Latin Americans know very well what it is like to have a passport that does not open many doors.
Plus, the only other European passport program still available is Malta’s, and it costs over €1,000,000 and takes over a year to process.
There are many other reasons why Montenegro is a solid CBI option:
- A 9%-11% income tax and 9% corporate tax rate
- A non-CRS jurisdiction
- Access to an American E-2 visa
- Solid touristic investment options with strong returns
- A small yet stable banking system
- Many English-speaking people, especially in the south
What do you need to know to apply?
There are two types of investment you can make to apply for a Montenegrin passport by investment:
- A €250,000 investment in the northern part of the country plus a €100,000 contribution to the government
- A €450,000 investment in Podgorica, the capital, or the southern part of the country plus a €100,000 contribution to the government
We have excellent real estate projects available both in the southern and northern regions of the country. Read about them here and here.
Another important factor to consider is who can apply with the main applicant. Montenegro has an extensive program that allows:
- The main applicant
- His/her spouse
- Financially dependent children without age restrictions
Also, you must consider the following:
- Only non-EU citizens can apply
- The applicant must not be subject to international sanctions or banned from entry to the EU, US, UK, or Canada
- The applicant must provide proof of the source of funds and a clean criminal record
- The applicant must be in good health and have an impeccable business, credit, and personal record.
