Best Opportunities: A Glimpse into Saint Lucia’s Most Chosen Investment Pathways
When talking about the best CBI program or the best opportunities regarding dual citizenship, Saint Lucia comes up. With three investment pathways, it has become a solid option in the CBI arena.
It's not surprising, then, to hear about the program's success. As the government released statistics from previous fiscal years, we can see how the program has grown regarding applications. Also, it's interesting to understand what investment pathway is more popular among applicants.
Looking for the Most Popular Program in The Caribbean
When looking at the Caribbean landscape we can safely say that the options are similar. Citizenship by investment provides citizenship eligibility in exchange for a contribution. This, we can say, is the common denominator for all options since the most popular program to the least chosen one.
Now, are all the programs the same? The answer is an absolute no, but the difference lies in the details. This means investment thresholds, investment means, allowed dependents, their ages, conditions, etcetera.
Some programs, like Grenada, have excellent universities and a reputation as an education center. For example, Saint George's University is a prestigious institution with advanced programs in careers like medicine. Others have interesting conditions for adding dependents like the case of Antigua and Barbuda. Furthermore, it recently applied changes that widened the dependent eligibility scope.
In countries like St Lucia, we can find the best opportunities through three pathways instead of two. Saint Lucia provides a bond option, an alternative that none of its neighbors offer.
However, since the government has released the numbers for the fiscal year 2022-2023, it is possible to understand the popularity of the CBI program and each investment path.
Saint Lucia CBI program in the previous years
The data for the fiscal year 2022-2023 has been released a year late, but it still provides a general picture of the program's popularity. According to the reports, numbers show a significant increase in applications compared with the previous fiscal year. This represents 85% growth. What we can understand from these numbers is that applicants continued to choose the Saint Lucia CBI program.
Now what interests us for the sake of this article is to understand what people are choosing the most. As we explained above, St. Lucia presents three investment pathways: real estate, donation to the national fund, and government bonds.
Numbers show that 77% of applications were destined for real estate, while donation and bonds present 16% and 7% respectively.
We already have a clear picture of this landscape, that is, in Saint Lucia CBI program the favorite option is real estate. At least this was thus in 2022-2023, but nothing indicates otherwise in the current fiscal year.
Apparently, revenue is important for applicants as they make the most profitable choice. As we explained in other articles, the investment in government bonds doesn't bring returns, although it does secure full cash back. This leaves real estate as the only profitable option.
If we analyze why bonds are the least chosen alternative, we can understand that people are looking to access through a lower number. But apparently, the possibility of acquiring 100% back in five years is not enough to tilt the balance in favor of the bonds.
Nonetheless, it's worth noting that from year 2021-2022, to year 2022-2023, the National Donation Fund option decreased by 5%, while the bond option increased by 6%. Can this be an indicator that the trend is changing? Is it possible that obtaining a refund for your whole investment is worth keeping that money on hold for five years?
We have to wait and see. Either way, there's no right answer as each investor and family have their own needs. Regardless, Mundo still believes in the advantages of the bond option and of the Saint Lucia CBI as the most popular program when it comes to variety.
